Dott wins in Berlin

14.07.2008

Graham Dott crushed Shaun Murphy 6-1 in the final of the latest stop of John Higgin's new World Series of Snooker in Berlin. Dott had already overcome New Zealand's Chris McBreen 4-1 in the first round before then overcoming John Higgins himself in the semi finals. Murphy had earlier defeated Stephen McGuire 5-3 to reach the final but was outclassed by Dott who had breaks of 113, 60, 78, and 68 along the way.

Snooker in Germany has always been popular and this event has shown World Snooker that maybe they should be looking a little closer to home when trying to add additional events to the calendar. 1,500 snooker fans packed the arena each day to watch four of the world's top professionals take on four leading amateurs all wrapped up in a slick professional event with plenty of humor which was televised live on Eurosport.

Next up for the tour is Moscow on the 27th and 28th of September before a stop off in Poland before returning to Germany for the Grand Finals. This has been a superb exercise by John Higgins and FSTC Management and with €70,000 on offer for the eventual Champion you can bet more and more pro's will be lining up for a bite at the cherry next season. With 5 events this season Higgins hopes to expand to 10 next season and going by the success to date it should not be a problem.
