No credit crunch for UAE team in 2009

The credit crunch has hit sponsorship levels for sport hard around the world but not for the UAE national snooker team it seems.  Rosy Blue have just announced that they will continue their sponsorship of the team which Include the likes of Mohammed Shehab and Mohammed Al Joker for the 2009 season. The financial backing given to the team in 2008 by the diamond supplier, gave a significant boost to the team to bring several laurels to the country. 

 

Sultan Al Joker, secretary general of the UAE Billiards and Snooker Association, said the support would continue to help the team to achieve more honours on the international circuit. “The support also offers us the opportunity to hold effective training camps, four to five times a year, before any international championship. We can also invite some professional players from England to help in the training,” he said.

The UAE national snooker team achievements in 2008 included winning the Arab snooker team and the inaugural single championship held in Qatar . The team also won the 13th AGCC Snooker Team Championship held in Saudi Arabia , 4th Asian Snooker Championship in Dubai which attracted 56 participants fom 23 countries. UAE were represented by seven players and three players got the honours of entering last 16 pre-quarterfinal knockout round.

Mohammed Shehab Al Hashimi and Mohammed Al Joker achieved the honours of being in the last 32 stage of the World Snooker Championship held in Austria . Al Joker on behalf of the board members, thanked Rosy Blue for their kind gesture and expressed the hope their partnership would continue for many years to come.
