World Snooker has announced that a new tournament, the World Snooker Jiangsu Classic Invitational, will be staged in June.
It will run from June 6 to 8, 2008, and will be held in Nanjing, Capital of the Jiangsu Province.
The field will comprise eight of the world’s top professional players plus four Asian wild cards. The full line-up will be confirmed next month. |

The new tournament is part of World Snooker’s strategy to develop the Chinese market further with the objective of hosting more ranking events in the region.
Nanjing hosted the 2005 China National Games, and is close to Wuxi City, the home town of Ding Junhui, where there will be an additional two-day roadshow with promotional activity. China’s top player Ding said: “Nanjing is a beautiful city and I’m sure all the players will enjoy the event.
“It’s great to have another tournament in China to add to the two ranking events we already have there. The more tournaments we have, the more snooker will grow in China.”
