Mohamed Shehab sets record

29.05.2008

Foul4's coach PJ Nolan has coached in Qatar for several years and in that time has had the opportunity to work on his coaching manual and workbooks. In that time PJ has fine tuned his coaching style and idea's into what can be accessed on his coaching site here.

While in Qatar PJ worked with many of Asia's top players and most now use his routines and workbooks as part of their daily practice schedule. Non more so than Dubai's Mohamed Shehab.

When PJ decided to return to Ireland no one was more disappointed than Shehab but the Dubai based cueist has continued to use PJ's workbooks and is in regular contact with his old coach. Mohamed recently texted PJ to inform him of his new highest score on one  particular routine, named the Christmas Tree.

PJ was amazed, a score of 970 had just shattered the previous record of 560. To put it in context it meant that Mohamed had to make at least 8 total clearances in a row of around 120 each time without missing.

Indeed Mohamed sent a text to PJ on 590 asking if it was alright to call it a night at one stage and continue the feat in the morning as he wanted to extend the run. That he did and 970 is the new record in PJ's academy for this particular routine.

Some top players using this type of scoring system often remark that they don't feel pressure when making big breaks of 100+ in tournament play anymore. Why? Because in practice they are used to counting so high (300, 500, 700 etc) that mentally 100 is nothing anymore.
