Ireland's
Michael Judge warmed up for
his crucible match with Ryan
Day with a win over Ken
Doherty in the popular
Wicklow Pro Am last weekend.
The event which is held in
ex-Irish Champion Jason
Watson's club attracted the
two Crucible bound players
with Joe Swail also involved
in the action.
The
event is restricted to
a small field of players
each year and come the
quarter finals we only had
two amatuers left in the
event with club owner Jason
and newly crowned European
Team Champion Martin
McCrudden left flying the
flag.
Jason
however was set the task of
overcoming Ken Doherty but
with only a week to go
before the World's the
Dubliner was in fine form
and disposed of Watson 5-2.
Martin on the the other hand
was in superb form and
knocked in breaks of 58, 59,
66, 66 and 103 on his way to
an empathic win over Joe
Swail.
The
other matches saw Michael
Judge run out a 5-2 victor
over Joe Delaney while
Rodney Goggins just edged
out Fergal O'Brien in a
gripping match.
The
semi finals saw Doherty and
Goggins fight all the way to
4-4 and just as it was
looking like Rodney was
going to take the final
frame a missed black on a 55
break left Doherty back in
the frame and eventually won
on the black to put him
through to the final. The
other semi saw McCrudden
race into a 4-1 lead only
for Judge to make a stunning
comeback with breaks of 101,
92, 89 and 102 to take the
match 5-4 and set up the
final encounter with
Doherty.
Judge
was in control for most of
the final but Doherty was
still in superb form and
breaks of 81, 86, 90
and 92 helped him to a 4-4
scoreline to force the
decider on the Q Club match
table. Judge opened well
with a superb 71 but Doherty
never gave up and forced his
way back into the frame with
2 snookers and the match
went down to the pink and
black. After a good bout of
safety Judge eventually
slotted home the pink for
the match and the Q Club Pro
Am Title for 2008. |
