The Irish team of Martin McCrudden, David Hogan and Brendan O'Donoghue defeated England 10-3 today to capture the European Team Championships in Glasgow. This is the the first time Ireland
have captured this event and the lads had played some superb snooker all week losing only one match early on in the group stages to Wales. Revenge followed in the quarter finals against the welsh 10-6 before they overcame
Ireland's second team of Leonard Shanahan, Colvin O'Brien and Daithi Whelan 10-7 to reach the final. England had already beaten two Scottish teams convincingly to reach the final but the Irish got off to a superb start in the
final leading 5-1 at one stage and never looked back with Brendan O'Donoghue crossing the finish line to seal victory for the lads.
Craigpark Masters was home for the event for the week and we saw some superb snooker being played throughout. With the stop start format of each player playing each of their opponents in
only 2 frames it sometimes stifles good snooker however with the breaks that were knocked in during the week that was not the case.
The event saw over 20 centuries compiled in the men's section with Jamie Jones of Wales weighing in with three of the highest, his effort of 135 good enough to take home the high break
prize. All in all a superb week of snooker and we now have the European Under-19's to look forward to in the same venue starting on Sunday morning.
