Ranked outside the top 16 for the first time in 16 years following his shock first-round world championship exit, the Ranelagh man will be anxious to kick off his season in style.
The first ranking event of the season, the Northern Ireland Trophy, starts on August 24 and the Lucan event will give the Irish contenders -- four of whom are in the world's top 32 -- much needed match practice.
Doherty will play Michael Judge in his first match. Tournament organiser Fergal O'Brien plays Patrick Wallace and Celbridge's resident professional, Joe Delaney tackles Rodney Goggins from Wexford.
Terry Cassidy of Lucan Racing continues his title sponsorship of the event and, with admission free, snooker fans will hope to see another 147 following Stuart Bingham's effort last season.
The high break prize is sponsored by ABC Stocktaking Services, in Newbridge, with additional sponsorship from Kenny's pub in
Lucan. The Mucky Duck in Celbridge, The Arc Bar, Brenfer Trophies, F1 Pitstop
Tyres, Frameworks, Stockholm Menswear and In Stitches.
