Defending Champions Germany have set the standard today in Scotland with a whitewash of Romania.
The team which Include Irato Santos (Pictured), Lasse Munstermann and Sascha Lippe ran out 18-0 winners, the only team to manage that feat on the opening day. Other
results in Group C saw Ireland's second team record a good 11-7 win over Scotland "3" with Daithi Whelan winning all but one of his frames. The remaining match saw a 12-6 win for Belgium over Northern Ireland in a group that
could go all the way to the wire with several strong teams involved. In group
A Scotland's A team nearly matched Germany's feat only for Switzerland's Samuel Lanthaler spoiling the party by taking a frame off Alan Hall. Both England and Malta also recorded wins on the opening day with England beating Holland 15-3
and ex champions Malta overcoming Finland 12-6. Group B saw Scotland's second
team play two matches, winning the first 17-1 over Russia but then having a 12-6 defeat at the hands of a very strong Welsh team which could all very well be professionals next year. Wales also won their second match with a 13-5
win over Cyprus. Andrew Paggett for Wales also recorded the highest break of the day with a superb 119. The only other match in that group saw France get a win on the board with a 15-3 win over Iceland with Gregory Kopec winning all his
6 frames. Group D only had one match today and that saw Ireland's first team
winning 14-4 against Poland with Martin McCrudden winning all of his six frames with a 103 for good measure.. Ladies

The Welsh team of Darren Morgan and Phil Williams would probably be most peoples favorites
to win the title and Darren underlined their intentions early today with a superb 112 in their 7-1 win over Malta. We also had wins for Ireland "1", Scotland "2" and Northern Ireland in group A. Those four
teams will be aiming to give Wales a run for their money but with four qualifying to the quarter finals there is everything to play for all involved.
Group B saw Ireland "2" go top of the group with two solid wins over Matla "2" and
Russia. However with England and Scotland "1" in that group they will have their work cut out to top the group. Those two also recorded wins over France and Scotland "3" respectively.
