Day three from Sheffield

09.03.2008

Day three of the World Championship Qualifiers saw Barry Hawkins, Michael Judge, Dave Harold and Anthony Hamilton all come through thier respective matches to reach the Crucible.

Hawkins defeated Andy Hicks 10-8 despite struggling to find his form throughout the match and indeed trailed 5-4 after the first session.

Hawkins battled back however to knock in breaks of 56 and 76 to take a 7-5 lead before Hicks responded with runs of 64 and 70 to level the match before Hawkins took the lead again with 81. A 51 break put Hicks into the lead once more but Hawkins produced breaks of 60 and 44 to take the match with Hicks just managing 1 point in the last two frames.

Anthony Hamilton earned his 12th visit to the Crucible with a 10-2 drubbing of Scotland's Scott MacKenzie. Hamilton got off to a good start going 3-0 ahead and never looked back with breaks of 53, 63, 66 and 100 along the way.

Dave Harold used to be a regular face at the Crucible and has made it again this year thanks to a 10-4 victory over World Snooker's own Mike Dunn. Harold came back from 4-3 down to win 7 frames on the spin thanks to breaks of  63, 66, 70 and 73 to seal his place in the draw this Tuesday. The win should now secure Harold his Top 32 spot in the rankings and give him a chance to relax a bit for the rest of the season starting in China later this month.

Dubliner Michael Judge booked his third trip to the Crucible with a 10-6 win over Michael Holt. Judge led 4-1 early on with a top break of 87 and extended his advantage to 7-3 with further runs of 109 and 96. Judge will now join fellow Irish players Doherty, Swail and Allen in the draw.
