China's Li Hang captured the Asian Under-21 Championships after defeating his teammate Li Yuan in the final in Myanmar on Saturday. The 9th running of this event was held in the Kandawgyi
Palace Hotel and due to the media blackout in Myanmar results were almost impossible to obtain during the weeks long play.
17 year old Li beat Li Yan(18) 6-1 (127-8, 84-8, 0-123, 82-28, 66-55, 64-49, 100-0) in the final which lasted 3 hours to become the Asian Under-21 Champion and should now receive the
nomination from the ACBS for a place on the WSA Main Tour for next season.
Li defeated Manish Jain (India), Muhammad Imran (Pakistan) and Mohamed Anaz Moahmed Riaz (Sri Lanka) in the group-stages and then went on to defeat Naing Lin Thu (Myanmar) 4-0 in the Last
16 before beating Amir Sarkhosh (Iran) 4-0 in the quarter-finals.
The semi finals saw him demolish Chinnakrit Yaowannasri of Thailand 5-0 (60-30, 67-21, 68-16, 56-15, 88-0) in the semifinals while his team mate Li Yuan defeated Thailand's other hopeful
Sorrawit Thiraphongpaiboon 5-1 (71-36, 67-40, 86-4, 56-70, 91-26, 45-9) in the other semi final.
Three Chinese snooker players participated in the championship from April 5 to 12 along with other 27 snooker players from 11 countries -- India, Iraq, Iran, Malaysia, host Myanmar,
Pakistan, Qatar, South Korea, Sri Lanka, Thailand and United Arab Emirates.
The third Chinese snooker player, Anda Zhang who many feel has huge potential lost to Sorrawit Thiraphongpaiboon in the quarter-finals on Thursday.
